When Do I Need to Change My Tires?

Any good car owner worries about the health of their car over time. It’s not going to stay pristine forever and parts will eventually breakdown. Trying to keep on top of all of the different things can feel like a losing battle at times, but it’s never as complicated as it seems.

You know when your car needs an oil change and can keep an ear out for any odd sounds, but is there something you are forgetting? Many people don’t think about their tires until they are told they need to change them. How frequently should you be changing your tires?

How Long Do Tires Last?

Let’s start off by saying that there are a lot different things that can affect the lifespan of a tire. Driving habits and environmental conditions will have a large effect on this. If you’re putting thousands of miles on your car and facing extreme temperatures, then you might not get as much life out of your cars. In general, how long should a tire last?

Well, the last variable is that different tire manufacturers will have different lifespans. Depending on the type and make of the tire, you can expect somewhere between 30-80,000 miles out of a tire. A good average to expect is around 60,000 for the average driver. High-performance or off-road tires might not last as long because of what they are put through. The best way to know how long your car will last is to understand your own driving habits and what that does to a car.
